Trading Fahrenheit for Celsius: Things Get A Little Colder

Today my roomates received visitors, and we have quite the full house. Chris’ girlfriend is in from South Africa and James has a friend in from Cornwall. As for me, I had the company of an 8:00am wake up from the handyman who came to do some work on the kitchen floor. He was so kind as to grace me with the presence of every loud tool he had in his kit.

Later, James, Laura (James’ cornish friend), and I took a day trip out to the O2 Centre. Thinking the megalithic entertainment complex would be up and running, we went in hope of doing some ice skating. Thwarted by delayed construction of the rink, our desire to skate took us out to Bayswater. We did some skating…. (As a side note: the British skate the rink clockwise, keeping the boards to their right- this seems counterintuitive, seeing as they drive on the left side of the road) Anyways, I shook off years of rust and quickly reclaimed my right-crossover.

In slightly more disappointing news via JM Colberg of Conscientious:

…the new rules for public photography currently being considered by the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting, which would open the door to the kind of discriminatory enforcement the current occupant of the White House has been so actively promoting. It’s not hard to see how such a development would be an enormous loss.

Not to mention a violation of 1st Amendment.

Imagine for a moment, if you will, needing a permit to take vacation photographs, or even being arrested for pointing you camera in order to capture the memory of your first visit to New York City…

I am just glad that I will be able to share memories of having had the opportunity to visit Libery Island and climb the stairs up to the obervatory in the crown of the Statue of Liberty.
